Horse racing is now back on track after its scheduling and set-up conflicts last year. On January 23, 2021, the Gulfstream Park will exhibit the world’s premier thoroughbred racehorses. It will be the 5th season of a million-dollar Pegasus World Cup Invitational that nails how tough and solid a veteran racehorse can end his career.

The Pegasus Cup is not only a racing competition for horses who work best on the dirt track. It also holds turf racing games, which adds flavor to what this horse racing event can offer.  The Pegasus Cup Turf also features the top turf race horses globally, which will happen before the main Pegasus World Cup showdown.

As with the main event, the Pegasus Turf Cup had rolled-out a list of twelve invited horses to grace the said show. In order to help you figure out how much you bet and the entries you’re willing to wager, here are the twelve racehorses vying for the 2021 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational.

The recently concluded San Gabriel Stakes winner is not going anywhere this year as he gets into the Pegasus Turf Cup with the most impressive odds. Trained by Peter Miller, he was also a titleholder at the Longacres Mile Handicap held at Emerald Downs last September. Aside from that, he earned 4th place at Seabiscuit Handicap last November at Del Mar.

Breaking The Rules

Accomplished at least sixteen horse racing starts since birth, Breaking The Rules is another contender to watch out for in the Pegasus Turf Cup. He recently finished in third place at the Ft. Lauderdale Stakes last December. Apart from that, he nailed two fourth places in the last quarter of 2020 – the Lure Stakes and the Knickerbocker Stakes.

Colonel Liam

Todd Pletcher will work for the Pegasus Turf Cup title this year to go to Colonel Liam as his entry. Born in 2017, this colt was a titleholder at the Tropical Park Derby held last December 26, 2020, at Gulfstream Park. Additionally, he was a significant finisher at Saratoga Derby Invitational Stakes last August.

Cross Border

This reigning Lubash Stakes and Bowling Green Stakes winner is heading to the Turf track at Gulfstream Park this weekend. Cross Border is a Michael J. Maker entry who has accomplished thirty horse racing games since his birth. Aside from his recent titles, he placed prominently in last year’s races like Sword Dancer Stakes, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Stakes, Mohawk Stakes, and Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes.

Barclay Tagg will have Tiz The Law at the Pegasus main event while he has Doswell at the Turf competition. This five-year-old colt has made eight racing games since his birth, where he earned two titles. Last December 12, 2020, Doswell was also entered into the Ft. Lauderdale Stakes and won second place.

Largent is the second entry of Todd Pletcher in the Pegasus Turf Cup. He is the most recent winner of the Ft. Lauderdale Stakes, which took place at Gulfstream Park. This colt has also earned two more titles last year: the Bert Allen Stakes and Edward P. Evans Stakes, while a second-place at the Lure Stakes.

North Dakota

A sire of Starry Dreamer, North Dakota will head on to Pegasus Turf Cup to earn his first major notable horse racing title. He is an entry by Claude R. McGaughey III and ridden by Jose Lezcano. This colt joined races last year, which he finished at fourth-place at the Sycamore Stakes and a winning title at Red Smith Stakes.

This Woodchopper Stakes conqueror is heading to Pegasus Turf with no looking back. He is a four-year-old colt trained by Michael Stidham and ridden by Angel Suarez. He was a Del Mar Derby Superstar and a big place at Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes (5th) and Bryan Station Stakes (4th).

Say The Word

Following the footsteps of More Than Ready, Say The Word is a multi-graded turf stakes winner. He recently closed the Northern Dancer Turf Stakes with a bang after dispatching all the entries at Woodbine. Apart from that, he earned two significant placements last year at the Singspiel Stakes and Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes.

Sharp Samurai

Sharp Samurai enters the Pegasus Turf Cup after dominating the third-place finish at the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile last November. Moreover, he has had many horse racing accomplishments last year, which includes City of Hope Mile Stakes (2nd),  Pacific Classic Stakes (2nd),  Eddie Read Stakes (2nd), and American Stakes (3rd).
