This game has been eagerly awaited by both nations ever since the draw was made, and it’s the final game of the group and is, therefore, likely to be of huge interest to one or both nations.

Wales have done an amazing job of booking passage to their first World Cup since 1958, and Robert Page’s men aren’t just in Qatar to make up the numbers. They’ve seriously impressed in recent tournaments and are a team that will be aiming to get through to the knockout stages.

Gareth Southgate’s side is well fancied, and in terms of placing their World Cup bets, there will be many Three Lions fans seeking to back their heads and hearts with a wager on a long-awaited World Cup triumph.

Expectations are always high when England plays in major tournaments, but they are now a team that is capable of meeting those hopes, and it will take a good side to put them out of this tournament.

England will want to not only qualify from a group that includes the United States, Iran, and Wales, but they’ll also expect to top it and will need to do so in order to avoid the potential banana skin of facing the Dutch in the Round of 16, which means they will be going into every game at full steam.

These two met in the European Championships in 2016 when goals from Jamie Vardy and Daniel Sturridge capped a comeback win over the Welsh, but it was, of course, Gareth Bale and his team-mates who had the last laugh as they went on to progress all the way to the semi-finals while England were dumped out by Iceland.

Best Bets

How about this for a treble? Both teams to score, England to win, and Gareth Bale to score first? Well, there’s a tasty 25/1 from Grosvenor Sports on that sequence of events.

We feel an explosive start may occur, given the history between these two, and ZetBet offers 71/10 on a goal being scored in the first five minutes, which is an interesting proposition.

Prediction

This encounter will be a close one, but we expect England to ease past Wales as they simply have too much quality not to do so. We’d back a 2-0 win.
